Nate's 9th Birthday 11-04-08

Today was Nate's 9th birthday! This year was pretty exciting because he got to share his birthday with Election Day. We began his celebration with our whip cream loaded pancakes and an interesting interpretation of the birthday song, all on different keys and different timings. (What can you say, we are not choir material.) We still got the point across though. Nate really seemed to enjoy it, and that is what counts the most!

Nate and I then had the opportunity to go vote. I think it was a great learning experience. He was grateful to see that it was easy and quick! Nate sure has come a long way this past year. Last year at this time we were very concerned about him. After seeing numerous doctors and specialists, we finally found the right medication to stabilize his emotions and anxiety attacks. What a difference it has made. He is finally back to his lovable, helpful, enjoyable self. We are so--- glad! Nate is a wonderful boy! He is fantastic with William, and growing and learning the exceptional fathering skills he will need when he becomes a father himself. He is doing fantastic in his school work too, and even made the A honor roll, with his lowest grade being a 95. We are so proud of him, and so happy he is part of our family!

What a Party! 11-01-08

Due to how busy we have been lately, we had to keep pushing Brianna's birthday party back over and over again because there was just no time to do it. Well, we pushed it back so far that we thought it would be better to combine Brianna and Nate's birthday parties into 1 for both. Wow! What a decision! We told the kids to make their own invitations, pick who they wanted to invite, plan their own activities, and make their own cakes. Sam and I never thought of counting the actual number of kids they would have. The night of the party, we gave up counting at 25. However, even with kids pouring out of every crevice of our home, I think everyone had a great time. We had pizza, birthday cake, and icecream to eat, with googlely punch to drink(complete with bugs and skulls). The kids tried to play "Dead Man Tag", but everyone soon realized we had too many obstacles to run into while blindfolded. The kids Mummy Wrapped and played Pin the Tail on the Cat, of course created by Brianna. All the kids left with smiles. Brianna and Nate loved it, and Mom and Dad were ready for a good night's rest and the time change!

***Natalie's Final Soccer Day*** 11-01-08

Well, soccer is finally at its end for this season. Natalie has grown and learned so much through this experience. When she started, she was a running-go get 'em fool. Through the middle of the season, however, she decided that "it is was to hard to get the ball!" We spent several games wondering why we were continuing soccer while we watched her run circles around the entire group of players on the field, never coming close to the ball or the goal for that matter. Then, like she was all of a sudden struck by lightning, Natalie found her true soccer self. The last two games have been great. Natalie scored her first goal of the season on the day of Emily's wedding. To my dismay, I was not in attendance and found out via a phone call while driving to the wedding location. The sound of her little voice, in such excitement, brought tears to my eyes the rest of my drive. It was such joy to hear her know that she could do something she put her mind to. Today's game was no exception though. I loved being able to watch as she worked so hard to run that ball down the field and score her second goal of the season. Had it not been so hot, thanks to our crazy Texas weather, she probably would have scored more.
Natalie was very fortunate. She had fantastic coaches this season and a wonderful set of teammates and team parents. We ended the season with 1 tie, and the rest losses, but with girls who enjoy being together and having fun. I think that is what matters the most. Devon's parents invited the entire team and their families to their home for an end of the season party, including lunch, cake, awards, and a bounce house. The girls were able to thank their coaches for all their hard work, then the coached did the same for the girls. All the kids had a blast. It was the perfect end to our season.

Halloween A-plenty! 10/30-31/08

Halloween has been non-stop this week! It started off with the great costume hunt. Brianna and Nate were going to be their imaginary Jedi Knights. (They were even going to sew their costumes themselves.) Natalie was going to wear Brianna's Susan costume from Narnia, which would need to be altered to fit. As for William, that proved easy. He had no opinion. Costumes became very difficult however when our sewing machine broke at the beginning of the week. We had to come up with some very last minute costumes. Luckily, Target had their costumes and costume accessories 30% off. So, we purchased an Ariel costume for Natalie, 2 Spiderman Costumes, 1 red one for William and a black one for Nate, and Brianna decided to finally be a cat, which we had all the supplies for at home. The kids really enjoyed their costumes when all was said and done.

Yesterday we celebated Halloween with our Fall Family Festival put on by our homeschool group SHARE. We all had a blast. The turnout was fantastic! It was so nice because my friend Kathryn came up with the idea of having each family attending prepare an activity for it. Why have we not thought of this before! It went like a charm. We had a cake walk, pin the wart on the witch, pumpkin decorating, a balloon toss, guessing games, broom ball, a spider-walk relay, mummy wrapping, face painting, etc... No one wanted to leave, so we stayed from 11-3. You can say the kids, and mom, were really worn out by the time we got home.
However, there was not much time for the weary! Around 5:30, we had to get everyone redressed for Trunk-or-Treat with the Wylie 1st and Sachse Wards. We were pretty disappointed this year because our ward did not hold its own Trunk-or-Treat. Our family really enjoys this event, to get together with our ward family and enjoy the season, but instead we had a carnival last Saturday. It was a lot of fun, but just not the same. We have some great friends in Wylie 1st, Sam's parents are in the Sachse Ward, and they all said come join us. So that's what we did. It was really great to see all of our friends from the other half of our old ward. We sure shared a lot of great memories together. Sam and I didn't think of the candy monster we would be starting though! All our kids pretty much filled their buckets just at the Trunk-or-Treat. (We still had Trick-or-Treating at Grandma and Grandpa's Friday night.) Natalie and William, unfortunately for us, solved most of that problem on our way home from the activity. Sam and I forgot to take their buckets from them after we got in the van. Since we had to drive to Allen to try and track down some missing items from our festival earlier, like our camera, my cell phone, and Brianna and William's costumes, we were in the car way longer than usual. William and Natalie had finished off almost half of their buckets of candy, almost silently while driving, to then fall asleep in the midst of their glory.

Friday, the damage was evident. The kids were on a major sugar high! Both Natalie and William were non-stop all day. The good thing about that, however, was that Trick-or-Treating would walk every last bit of it out of them. It is our annual tradition to go to Sam's parents house on Halloween night. Not only do they have great houses for trick-or-treating in their neighborhood, it is also Barbara's birthday. We all love to spend her exciting birthday night with her. This year was no exception! Their neighborhood had more visitors than in years past, which was nice to see, and the neighbors seem to get friendlier and friendlier. I think they realize we have been doing this for 10 years now. After walking for over an hour, and carrying the little ones the last part of the way, Sam and I were grateful the night came to a close. The kids were very satisfied with life, and we were exhausted! Sleep never felt so great! (Too bad it would have end so soon!)

Our Day At The Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch 10-28-08

One of our favorite traditions at Halloween time is taking the kids to the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch. The kids love the bounce houses, the hay rides, running through the pumpkin fields, and finding their way through the hay maze. Best of all, it is free! This year, the morning started off like any Texas fall morning. We woke up to an arctic blast! It was 30 degrees, and the only thought that was running through my head was that we were going to be miserably freezing! I gathered multiple jackets from all aorund the house before we left, just in case. However, when we arrived, the sun was shining beautifully, and very few clouds were in the sky.
We were in for a wonderful time. Nana and our friends the Jones' came with us. We played and ran all over from 10-1. We took lots of pictures, and thanks to our Mimi, we looked very festive for the ocassion. (The kids absolutely love wearing their Halloween attire to the pumpkin patch as you can see!) It was a great day!
